Connecticon and general convention question

ok. i am very confused because i was watching YouTube today and i was watching Sweeney Todd cosplayers doing cosplay skits at various conventions. and i was wondering (since now i really wanna do a My Friends or Epiphany skit) if i could do a skit at Connecticon. but the rules say for the cosplay skits they have to be pertaining to anime, web comics, video games, etc. so....that means that i cant rite? i really want to do a cosplay skit soooooooooo badly! lol
so i want to know
A. would it be ok if i did a Sweeney Todd cosplay skit at Connecticon
and
B. if not there than what conventions can i do it at (keep in mind that im in the northeast part of the US so going all the way across the country or out of the country is not an option for me)
